Sharing Your Memories

Several alumni, faculty and adminstrators  sent reminiscences early enough to be published in our special Commemorative Magazine (see the link to purchase a copy).

Though we can't add any more articles to a magazine that is already published, we would like to provide a forum here to invite alumni and former or current faculty and administrators to share additional stories about their experiences at SPHS.

The following are some suggested topics to consider as you compose your articles.  Write as many as you like and send them to Dave Taylor at dtaylor@bcps.org.  We reserve the right to decline to publish submissions that are poorly written, disparaging of the school or its students, faculty, staff and administrators.

Humor at the Point

Write a true anecdote about something humorous or downright funny that happened during your time as a student at SPHS.

Notable Sports at the Point
Write a true story about an especially notable play, game, match or season.

Or tell a true story about a legendary athlete who stood out among his or her fellow athletes.

Or write a profile essay about a remarkable coach who made an important impact on the athletes and the athletic program that he or she coached.

Great Lessons Learned

Write about an important or interesting lesson you learned from an effective teacher, counselor, or administrator, or organization advisor.

Memorable Educators
Write a paragraph or more about the positive impact of an educator who worked at SPHS for at least 20 years.

Or write a paragraph about an educator whose time at SPHS was shorter than 20 years but who made an especially notable impact on the school.

Sparrows Point Heroes

Write a true story about a student or alumni who risked or given his or her life in the military, law enforcement, or fire and rescue service to protect or help other people.  Be sure to tell a specific heroic thing the person did.

Impressive Alumni

Write a biographical profile about a student who accomplished exceptional things after graduating.  Focus on his or her post-high school educational and/or professional achievements.

Sparrows Point Lingo
Write a dictionary entry for a word or expression that is distinctive of or unique to SPHS and the surrounding community.   The word could be a reference to a place, an activity, an idea, a group, an item, a kind of person; or it could be a slang expression.  Since this book will be intended for a general audience, including children, the terms need to be G-rated.  Give the word or expression, then a definition, then a sentence or short dialogue with the word or expression in context.  If the word or expression was limited to a particular era, indicate when that was.

Example:

The Point — 1. shortened title for Sparrows Point High School.  “My whole family graduated from the Point.”  2. during the heyday of The Bethlehem Steel’s Sparrows Point Plant, “The Point” was a shortened title for that company.  “We went to work at the Point right out of high school."
